Tourists have had their say on one of the most underrated counties in Ireland. The 32 counties on the island of Ireland all boast a unique beauty.
However, the counties in the west of Ireland along the Wild Atlantic Way are particularly popular with tourists. The dramatic coastal views along the west of Ireland are unmatched, but it still seems as though there are some places there that tend to get overlooked by visitors.
One of those places is Co Sligo. Wedged between Co Mayo and Co Leitrim, Sligo has a number of notable spots when it comes to natural beauty.
Some social media users have claimed that the county is among the most underrated in all of Ireland, despite its beauty. One Reddit user asked which counties in Ireland were the most overlooked, and a number of responders were quick to point to Sligo.
"I have been taking an interest in travelling round other parts of Ireland, I have my eyes on Cavan, Monaghan, Sligo and Leitrim in particular, do you think these are worth it?" they asked.
One person responded: "Sligo and Roscommon are unbelievable spots and you would never hear them thrown around in tourism lists."
Another commented: "Sligo is great. So is Mayo." A third said: "Sligo is amazing. The town of Sligo is clean and has nice board walk along the river."
A fourth responded: "Sligo is class and handy to get to." While Sligo was a clear answer for many, others had a number of different Irish counties in mind.
For those who like to get outdoors and experience nature, Sligo has plenty to offer. Some of the top attractions for visitors to Sligo include Mullaghmore Head, Coney Island, and Sligo Folk Park, to name a few.
Among the most underrated counties in Ireland for these Reddit users are Co Fermanagh, Co Cavan, Co Donegal, and Co Down.
